14.06.2019. The Croatia – Korea Environmental Business Forum was held on 13 June 2019 in Zagreb, with a view to developing and improving economic cooperation between the two countries. Numerous persons from the economic and the public sector, diplomats, representatives of the towns, academia, and research institutes participated in the Forum.
The Forum was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Croatia, the Korea Business Center in Zagreb (KOTRA), theKorea Environmental Industry Association (KEIA), and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund. The event was opened by Mr. Yongtae Shin, the vice-chairman of KEIA, while the welcome speech to partners and guests was delivered by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Croatia H.E. Dong-chan Kim, and State Secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Energy Mile Horvat. Ambassador Dong-chan Kim stressed the importance of these types of events in the respective sector, such as environmental protection, where the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Korea had not established cooperation yet. He confirmed his belief that Korean companies and their technologies could help the Croatian partners in achieving their goals.
The assistant minister of environment and energy, Mr Igor Čižmek, presented the mission and vision of the Ministry, the current projects and priorities – of which we can underline the preservation of biodiversity and geodiversity, the projects within the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion (OPCC) that are under way, the adoption of acts governing water management, the implementation of the Waste Management Plan of the Republic of Croatia, and many more. Deputy director, Mrs Suin Yang, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea, presented the analysis of the trends on the Korean and the global market, the importance of cooperation, and the programmes of global cooperation in the environmental protection sector.
In the second part of the Forum, aimed at boosting economic cooperation between Croatia and South Korea, Mrs Maja Feketić, chief of the Sector for EU Funds at the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, presented the ongoing projects of the Fund and the Ministry of Environment and Energy, procedures for the preparation and implementation of projects, methods of financing, and the best practice examples, while the member of the Board of Zagreb Holding, Mrs Marica Dusper, presented the current and future projects of Zagreb Holding related to sustainable urban development of Zagreb.
Koran companies operating in the environmental sector also had the opportunity to present their technologies, and afterwards the interested parties, renowned Croatian companies, held individual business meetings with the representatives of Korean companies.
The Forum was a kind of platform for developing and improving economic cooperation between the two countries. Through these types of events, business people from the Republic of Korea wish to provide information about the Korean technology and find common business interests that would strengthen bilateral relations. In order to promote the cooperation between the Croatia and South Korea in all sectors, the Korea Business Centre (KOTRA) is organising these events together with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Croatia, and constantly looking for new sectors in which the two countries have still not established cooperation. All with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations.
