Be the change – energy saving campaign

CAMPAIGN ON ENERGY SAVING POSSIBILITIES IN HOUSEHOLDS

Reducing energy consumption and preventing energy losses are becoming increasingly important in the EU, especially in the context of the current geopolitical situation. Energy efficiency measures have been recognised as an important instrument for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and for achieving sustainable energy supply, improving energy independence, and promoting the competitiveness of the European economies.
Since approximately one quarter of all direct CO2 emissions in the EU come from households, it is important that citizens embrace the energy efficiency and energy saving measures. Our daily choices and habits have a great impact not only on the home budget, but on energy consumption at national level, and consequently on the environment. By taking the small steps in households, we can save the energy and money, and by reducing the emissions, we can help protect the climate.

With the aim of reminding the citizens about the most efficient and relatively simple measures that can be applied to achieve energy and financial savings, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund are starting an information campaign entitled “Be the change.”

The campaign is based on the Croatian Guidelines for saving energy that were prepared by the experts at the Hrvoje Požar Energy Institute and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, in compliance with the EU package on gas savings, planning to cut gas usage by 15% in the period from 1 August 2022 until 31 March 2023.

The energy saving potential based solely on changes in people’s behaviour is significant, so it is important that we all use the available energy generating products sensibly and responsibly.

It takes so little effort to become efficient and save energy.
Set an example; be the change.

You are more important than you think.
