WMC Babina gora

Regional Waste Management Centre “Babina gora” will meet the requirements regarding mixed municipal waste management in Karlovac County (5 towns and 17 municipalities), north-eastern part of Lika-Senj County (1 town and 3 municipalities), and western art of Sisak-Moslavina County (1 town and 2 municipalities), and it will be dimensioned for the treatment of up to 30,000 tonnes/year of mixed municipal waste.

WMC is planned in Karlovac area, and it includes the design and construction of the waste management centre (WMC) Babina gora, and the construction of 4 transfer stations (Karlovac, Ogulin, Slunj i Otočac).

The project was approved for EU financing in 2019, with eligible costs co-financed from the Cohesion Fund amounting to HRK 270.5 million (approx. 72.34%), 17.66% is provided by EPEEF, and the remaining amount by the Beneficiary, i.e. KODOS d.o.o. (10%).

The construction and establishment of the Waste Management Centre “Babina gora” will mark  great progress in setting the foundations for sustainable waste management that complies with the relevant legislation, and together with the implementation of other measures in the Croatian Waste Management Plan such as separate waste collection, remediation and closure of noncompliant landfills, allow the utilisation of the residual mixed waste, and final appropriate  disposal of the waste.
