The resources for the financing of environmental protection are allocated in the State budget, budgets of units of local and regional self-government, and other sources, as well as through the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund in line with the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act.
The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund performs the tasks of financing the preparation, implementation and development of programmes, projects and similar activities in the field of conservation, sustainable use, protection and enhancement of the environment, and in the field of energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources, promotion of the targets and principles of environmental protection for the purpose of achieving a systematic and integral preservation of the quality of the environment, preservation of biodiversity, landscape diversity and geodiversity, and rational use of natural resources and energy as the main conditions for sustainable development and ensuring the citizens’ rights to a healthy environment .
