Applications for co-financing of electric vehicles start on 22 April

08.04.2024.

From 22 April, via registered car dealers, citizens will be able to get incentives from the the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund for the purchase of energy efficient vehicles. For this, a record amount of EUR 15 million has been earmarked.

"The interest will most certainly be high, but this year we have provided the largest amount of funds ever. Compared to the previous public calls, the total amount of incentives has been more than doubled, so we expect that everyone who is seriously considering buying a new energy efficient vehicle will take advantage of the possibility to apply for the Fund's co-financing," said the Fund’s director Luka Balen.

On the website vozimoeko.fzoeu.hr  you can find almost 300 models of different makes of energy-efficient vehicles that are available on the Croatian market, and the points of sale are listed  where you can apply for co-financing. Up to 40% can be obtained per individual vehicle, and only new energy-efficient vehicles whose total price, including any discount and VAT, does not exceed 50,000 euros, are eligible for co-financing. The maximum amount of incentives will depend on the vehicle category - for electric cars it is up to 9,000 euros, for plug-in vehicles up to 5,000 euros, and up to 2,500 euros for motorcycles and scooters.

To be eligible for co-financing, all interested parties should first select the desired vehicle and contact one of the points of sale registered in the Fund’s database. Once citizens have decided on the make and model of an energy-efficient vehicle, they must prepare all the necessary documentation in cooperation with the selected authorised car dealer. The request for co-financing must include a certificate of residence of the applicant, a quote for the purchase of a vehicle issued by the point of sale, an advance payment invoice, and proof of receipt of payment of the mandatory minimum advance to the account of the point of sale (minimum 7% of the required amount of incentives).

"The goal is to have around 2,000 new energy-efficient vehicles co-financed by the Fund on our roads by the end of the year. The plan is to continue with the “ Drive Economically” programme because we are aware that the market still depends on our incentives, and they can tip the scales in favour of buying more energy-efficient vehicles," said director Balen.

Minister of economy and sustainable development Damir Habijan believes that state incentives play a key role in encouraging consumers to choose more environmentally friendly options when buying a new passenger car. "In addition to incentives for the purchase of vehicles, the State co-finances charging stations to all those who install solar power plants on their family houses. This is an opportunity to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and improve air quality in our cities," commented Minister Habijan.
