LONG-TERM ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES

  • By changing our behaviour, we can make significant energy savings and reduce the related costs. However, to see long-term effects and mitigate the risk from the future disruptions on the energy market, the solution is to invest in the measures of energy renovation of buildings/houses by:
    1. Increasing thermal insulation of the envelope (exterior walls, roofs, and floors), and replacement of the glazing – implementation of these measures has to comply with the requirements of the Technical regulation on rational use of energy and thermal insultation in buildings, and depending on the baseline condition of the building/house, the energy required for heating can be reduced by more than 50% - the energy renovation projects implemented so far show that the average savings in energy consumption exceed 60%;
    2. Replacing the existing heating systems with more efficient ones using renewable energy sources, including the systems for own electricity generation using PV panels.
The order of implementation of these measures is very important because the first thing is to reduce the energy required by the building/house, followed by the correct dimensioning of the heating system to accommodate the reduced energy consumption requirements. Otherwise, the building will not be energy efficient and unnecessary energy will be dispersed into the environment. It would be highly inadvisable to install the new system using natural gas or heating oil regardless of their efficiency. In some buildings, especially residential apartment buildings with gas central heating, the transition to another heating fuel will be difficult to achieve (not only in technical terms, but also due to ownership issues), and energy renovation in regard should be urgently initiated in order to reduce possible gas requirements in such buildings as much as possible.

Think about the ways you can reduce energy consumption and talk to a licensed design engineer for more information, and/or request the concept design to be drawn up for your house/building.
