12.07.2023.

With the help of the Fund’s co-financing, Pula Herculanea purchased a new electric streetsweeper with a capacity of 5 m³, the first of its kind in Croatia, thus Pula has joined numerous European cities that use them into maintain the cleanliness of public areas. The sweeper worth around EUR 430,000 that has the capacity to clean large free areas was presented in the handover ceremony at the Pula Forum, attended by representatives of the Fund.
As part of the public call for the procurement of municipal vehicles using alternative fuels, the Fund granted Pula’s utility company almost 155 thousand euros for the purchase of two electric streetsweepers. “The procurement of alternatively fuelled municipal vehicles is an example of not only a good investment but of a new way of thinking, which should become the standard. The role of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund is to promote excellence and steer investments into projects that will transform our utility companies as well as society in general into a "greener" and more sustainable one,” said Aleksandra Čilić, head of the Environmental Protection Sector at the Fund.

"Thanks to the modern electric sweeper, which is the first of its kind in Croatia, Pula Herculanea employees will be able to sweep city streets, parking lots, roads, and public spaces more efficiently and economically, and maintain the cleanliness of the city. We are moving in the planned direction by applying to European funds, and city companies are dedicated to concrete green policies for further preservation of the environment,” said Filip Zoričić, the mayor of the City of Pula.

Robi Fuart, the director of Pula Herculanea, believes that the new electric sweeper came none too soon as the number of tourists staying in Pula is growing and the summer season is about to reach its peak. “Our work was significantly accelerated by the first electric streetsweeper that we received in May this year, which can clean the area of 2 m³. The process of decarbonisation of the Pula Herculanea fleet that we’ve started will contribute to the green transition and reduced carbon dioxide emissions. This was recognized by the Fund which granted us co-financing for the procurement of sweepers, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them,” concluded Fuart, adding that electric sweepers ensure maximum performance and high autonomy, without harmful impacts on the environment, at the same time providing a reduction in labour and maintenance costs.
