11 million kuna for sorting plant in Metković

26.10.2022.

The construction and fitting out of the sorting plant for the separately collected waste worth 11 million kunas was completed in Metković. The plant was visited by the mayor of Metković, Dalibor Milan, the deputy county mayor of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Joško Cebalo, and Sanja Jelačić, the head of Intermediate Body level 2 at the Fund.

This is the first sorting plant in Dalmatia that the town of Metković built thanks to an HRK 9 million grant from the European Cohesion Fund. The newly built sorting plant will provide greater quality of raw material obtained from the collected waste, which shows that it is one of the important links in a successful waste management chain. Apart from the citizens of Metković, the sorting plant will be used by the town of Opuzen and municipalities Kula Norinska and Pojezerje.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, and all those who worked on the construction of the sorting plant. This project is of great interest for Metković, the Neretva valley, and the entire Dubrovnik-Neretva County with the aim of establishing a sustainable waste management system,” said the mayor of Metković, Dalibor Milan.

The head of Intermediate Body level 2, Sanja Jelačić, expressed her pleasure with the cooperation of the town of Metković and the Fund in implementing the projects co-financed from EU funds: “The construction of the composting plant is works in progress, for which you’ve managed to secure HRK 12 million from EU funds, and the new infrastructure will contribute to increasing the rate of separately collected waste. With all these invested efforts and energy, I’m confident that good results will be achieved,” said Jelačić.

On behalf of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the event was attended by deputy county mayor Joško Cebalo: “In the last five years, Metković has made exceptional progress with plenty of investments. The opening of the sorting plant is a great step forward, a step for the future, and the step we’re all striving for – separate collection of waste and sustainable waste management. We have the same goal in our country with the project of the Waste Management Centre Lučino razdolje. With the implementation of this project, which I’m proud to say is in progress, we will solve the problem of landfill in our county, protect our environment, and take a responsible approach to preserving our natural resources.”
