For the purpose of further improvement pf waste management in Sisak-Moslavina County, the director of the Fund, Luka Balen, and the minister of environmental protection and green transition, Marija Vučković, handed over contracts worth in total 77 thousand euros. One contract is for co-financing the removal of illegal dumpsites located in the area of Novska, and the other for co-financing the purchase of a device for the prevention of food waste in the Lipovica Penitentiary.

"The Fund is intensively cooperating with Sisak-Moslavina County, as well as local self-government units located in its area. This cooperation is evident in numerous projects that we’re jointly implementing and for which the Fund has provided over 87 million euros. This includes financing the disposal of construction waste generated by the devastating earthquake. In this segment, the Government of the Republic of Croatia has charged the Fund to financially help the areas that sustained damaged in the earthquake, and also to help them organise efficient logistics. For the remediation of waste generated by the earthquake, the Fund has approved a total of 17.3 million euros," said Balen.

Minister Vučković emphasised that the improvement of the waste management system was one of the priorities of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, and all activities undertaken in cooperation with the Fund were going in the direction of waste management in the spirit of circular economy and preventing its generation as much as possible. For next year, she also announced new public calls from EU funds, as well as from the Environmental Protection Fund, to which local self-government units and utility companies would be able to apply. After handing over the contract, minister Vučković and her associates held a working meeting with county prefect Ivan Celjak and his colleagues.
