Eco-drive cleaning the seabed in Brijuni National Park

15.09.2025.

An underwater cleaning drive "Eco-Patrol Brijuni 2025" was carried out on Brijuni, which is one of the projects aimed at environmental protection that received grants in a public call for proposals for associations. During the last three days, a large underwater cleaning action "Eco Patrol Brijuni 2025" was carried out at and around Brijuni Islands, in which divers from Croatia and Slovenia pulled large waste from the sea. The aim of this drive is putting focus on the problem of seabed pollution, reducing the negative impact of waste on marine habitats and marine organisms, raising awareness of the importance of preserving the sea, the environment and nature, and the need to preserve flora and fauna. The drive was organised by the Croatian War veterans’ Diving Club HRVI Nemo-Adriatic in cooperation with the Public Institution Brijuni National Park supported by Blue Promotion, and with grants provided through the call for proposals invited by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.  Divers from the Diving Club HRVI Nemo-Adriatic from Croatia and Slovenia, divers from the Diving Club AdriatiCro Zagreb, and Umag Fire Department joined the drive. During the action, the divers cleared several locations on the Brijuni Islands and the central port on Veliki Brijun, pulling out from the sea various bulk waste, plastic, bottles, and glass with the aim of contributing to the preservation of the sea, the environment and nature.

"In order to keep the sea and the seabed clean, it is vital to raise the awareness of all citizens, and when large projects, diving clubs and the local community connect, as is the case today, change can happen. Each such initiative contributes to a common goal - preserving the environment as the foundation of a healthy and sustainable society. The call for proposals of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund has just ended, where associations could obtain up to 20,000 euros in grants for projects as today's cleaning of the seabed, as well as for other projects in the field of environmental protection and energy efficiency.  This is a follow-up to continuous support for the projects implemented by associations, and as of this year, the total amount of funds has more than doubled, meaning the available amount is one million euros. The interest shown was great, and we are glad that next year we will see numerous projects aimed at protecting the environment, engaging and educating the local community about the importance of sustainable development and care for the environment", said Korina Francišković Curić, an independent associate of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.
