Fund participates in sustainable building conference

24.11.2022.

Today, the representatives of the Fund took part in the 5th Central Conference on Sustainable Building organised by Croatia Green Building Council.

The key national and visiting international stakeholders in the field of sustainable construction, energy efficiency, and green economy gathered at the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb.

The head of the Department for energy  efficiency and renewable energy sources at the Fund, Mladen Ilijević, participated in the discussion panel on the assessment and financing tools and mechanisms. He said that the Croatian government adopted the decision providing almost one billion kunas for the energy renovation and improvement of energy efficiency of apartment building and family houses. “If we think about the interest in the past energy renovation calls, it is evident that citizens are very interested and that many of them have already prepared a significant part of the documentation, so these projects could be implemented in a relatively short time. It is also essential to promote energy efficiency in the light of the current geopolitical circumstances. Thus, apart from the energy renovation of residential objects using renewable energy sources, we are also improving energy efficiency. That was the aim of the adopted decision on the promotion of investment in solar cells, whose implementation will facilitate the legislative procedure for investing in solar power plants,” said Ilijevć.

The national Roadmap for decarbonisation of building stock in the Republic of Croatia, which was developed by the GBC expert team in cooperation with a network of members and partners, was also discussed at the conference. The document introduces the concept of decarbonisation as the potential for economic development and detects regulatory barriers, obstacles for the transition in the sectors that are related to the building sector – from the public administration to the participants in the building industry and science institutions. This document is of national importance and specifies the conditions, tools, and mechanisms for co-financing the transition.

The Roadmap is part of the #BuildingLife project, a comprehensive scheme aimed at setting out the concepts such as the life-long approach to building stock into daily practice in the sector, and include it in national and supranational regulatory frameworks so that the process of decarbonisation of the built environment could speed up and be made more efficient. On that occasion, Alenka Košiša Čičin Šain, advisor to the director of the Fund, together with other #BuildingLife campaign ambassadors endorsed the Roadmap for decarbonisation of building stock in the Republic of Croatia with her signature.

The conference on sustainable building unifies the novelties and perspectives of all stakeholders cooperating with the building sector, which are simultaneously starting to regulate, organise, plan, design and construct buildings with reduced negative environmental impact, improved economic values, and better comfort level for residents.

The conference was followed by around 1000 participants in person and online.
