The representatives of the Fund presented EU climate change adaptation projects at this year’s 16th Days of the Croatian Chamber of Civil Engineers taking place in Opatija from 9 to 11 June.“Climate change adaptation projects co-financed by the EU are implemented under the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014 – 2020, and in this process the Fund has the role of Intermediate Body level 2. To be specific, this means that we carry out technical verification of project implementation and conclude contracts. We had two climate-related calls; one in which funding was granted to the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) for the strategic project of Modernisation of the National Weather Observation Network in Croatia – METMONIC, and the other one entitled ‘Scheme for strengthening the applied research for climate change adaptation measures’, under which 25 contracts were concluded mainly with research institutions and their partners,” said Nataša Dankić Sliepčević, head of department at the Fund’s Intermediate Body.
Marin Paladin, project manager at Intermediate Body of the Fund, explained that the goal of the METMONIC project was the modernisation of the meteorological network so that 100% of the Croatian territory was regularly monitored and the impact of climate change estimated, as well as modelling tools to assess climate change impacts and the impacts of potential adaptation measures, while the other project was aimed at supporting the applied research for the climate change adaptation measures.
The “Days” conference has now become a well-established event gathering experts from different fields of civil engineering. The conference includes seminars and panels covering almost all specialised civil engineering fields, regulations, and project management. They are used as a platform for presenting the latest research and professional insights, experiences, and best practice examples.
