New civic amenity site in Split

14.03.2023.

The new civic amenity site Pujanke is the third household waste recycling site in Split, along with Karepovac and Orišac. The opening ceremony was attended by the state secretary at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development Mile Horvat, the mayor of Split, Ivica Puljak, and the director of the waste disposal company Čistoća Ivica Karoglan, as well as the representatives of the Fund: Slavica Lulić, the head of the Unit for financial verification at Intermediate Body, and project manager Tihana Marić.
State Secretary Horvat said that household waste management centres and waste management represented an important link in the chain of the integrated, circular economy under the European Green Deal. He mentioned that it was stipulated in the regulations that towns with more than 100,00 inhabitants must have four civic amenity sites. “The purpose of civic amenity sites is to allow citizens to dispose ofcertain waste categories they separated free of charge. Ambitious goals have been set for waste separation rates and recycling rates, and the town such as Split simply needs this type of infrastructure,” commented Horvat.
The construction and fitting out of the civic amenity site Pujanke was co-financed from the European Union Cohesion Fund. The overall value of the project amounts to EUR 464,499.44, while EU co-financing amounts to EUR 389,520.95. Slavica Lulić from Intermediate Body at the Environmental Protection and Energy Fund said that thus far the total of EUR 62.5 million EUR had been withdrawn from EU funds for the construction and equipping of 215 civic amenity sites. She reminded that the Fund had co-financed the remediation of Karepovac, as well as many other projects implemented not only in the Split area, but the entire Split-Dalmatia County.
Mayor Ivica Puljak said that the use of household waste recycling centres had thus far proved to be successful. “I’d like to invite the citizens to make use of this new civic amenity site. The Town will continue with the development of the new waste disposal infrastructure, and analyses so far have shown that our citizens are increasingly accepting the practice of waste separation,” said the mayor.
