24.6.2025. - On the island of Zlarin, a drive was held to collect waste electrical and electronic equipment, resulting in close to three tons of collected EE waste. At the invitation of the local committee, citizens brought their old and defective appliances, mostly washing machines and dishwashers, refrigerators, televisions, etc. The old appliances were taken over by an authorised company, which will ensure that this waste is disposed of in the proper way. The drive was carried out following the public call of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, which co-financed the activities of removing end-of-life vehicles and waste electrical and electronic equipment on the islands. After the end of the tourist season, it is expected that the drive will continue on Dugi otok and Korčula. In the European Union countries, more than 13 million tonnes of electrical and electronic equipment are placed on the market annually. At the same time, an average of just under 5 million tons, or about 11 kilograms per person, is collected separately. EE equipment may contain elements hazardous to human health such as lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium and arsenic - so they must be collected and disposed of separately from other waste. For the same reason, such waste has no place in the environment or in municipal waste.
