The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition has approved the financing of the solar power plant of Vodovod i odvodnja Brača i Hvara d.o.o., a project that should significantly reduce energy costs in the public water supply system, as well as emissions of harmful gases. The decision was signed by Minister Marija Vučković, and the power plant will be built in Supetar, as part of the infrastructure managed by the company. The total value of the project is about 191.7 thousand euros, of which 63.6 thousand euros in grants will be provided from the Modernisation Fund. The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund is in charge of operational monitoring of project implementation. The planned power plant with a capacity of 126 kW/yr should produce almost 957 mWh of energy, which, in addition to environmental benefits, also means lower electricity bills in the water supply system.
Minister Vučković said that this project was part of a wider and continuous investment of the Government of the Republic of Croatia in water supply and sewage systems. "Through the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, we have already co-financed the preparation of project documentation with 1.3 million euros for water supply systems, which is the basis for such concrete investments in practice. The solar power plant on Brač shows how we connect infrastructure development with the energy transition - we reduce the costs of the system, strengthen its resilience and at the same time contribute to environmental protection," said minister Vučković.
In accordance with these priorities, the Ministry has provided 70 million euros for public water supply projects through the Modernisation Fund. So far, 27 financing decisions have been adopted, and more than 6 megawatts of new solar power in the public sector being developed, represening an important step towards more energy-sustainable public services. The deadline for applying for new projects is by the end of September this year.
