The representatives of the Fund took part in the event to mark the completion of remediation of landfill “Orl” in Ferdinandovac. Most landfill remediation projects are co-financed from the Cohesion Fund, while the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund provides part of the funding.“This is an investment worth almost 15 million kunas, and I’m glad that with the grant of almost 13 million from the Cohesion Fund, or 85%, we managed to close the landfill. The Fund co-financed this project with 1.5 million kunas, while Municipality Ferdinandovac contributed 750 thousand kunas. In addition, the Fund financed with 100 percent, or more than 420 thousand kunas, the preparation of the project documentation and studies so that the project could apply for co-financing from the EU Cohesion Fund in the first place,” said the head of the Sector for EU Funds, Maja Feketić.
Deputy mayor of Koprivnica-Križevci County Ratimir Ljubić and head of the department for public utilities Marijan Štimac also participated in the event.
As Vjekoslav Maletić, the head of Municipality Ferdinandovac, said, the project worth almost 15 million kunas was completed in two years after the agreement had been signed. After the technical inspection, the landfill was issued the use permit.
“After having completed remediation of the landfill, all negative impacts of landfilling were eliminated, underground waters protected, and the soil regenerated,” said Maletić, adding that a PV power plant was being considered that would be installed on the land plot.
Deputy county mayor Ljubić congratulated on the successful completion of the project and pointed out the importance of protection of the environment and efficient waste management system, with special focus on improving waste separation in the community, reuse of raw materials, and establishment of the circular economy in the units of local and regional self-government.
