A meeting was held in Virovitica regarding the projects the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund is co-financing in Virovitica-Podravina County.
The participants in the meeting included Director of the Fund Siniša Kukić with his associates, the mayor of Virovitica, Ivica Kirin, and Virovitica-Podravina County mayor, Igor Andrović, who discussed all the important topics regarding waste management, environmental protection, and energy renovation. They talked in particular about the remediation of the landfill until 2028, co-financing of renewable energy sources i.e., solar power plants on public buildings, purchase of containers for bio-waste, co-financing of bring banks next to the buildings, using geothermal energy, and other subjects.
The director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, Siniša Kukić, said that today’s meeting was a follow-up on successful cooperation with the Town of Virovitica and Virovitica-Podravina County. “In the last 15 years we have invested more than 170 million kunas in the County. We broached several topics, and we have reached agreement on many of them, so we will set about their implementation. This year, the Fund is preparing new public calls and calls for proposals, and it is to be expected that Virovitica and other local self-government units in this area will be interested in applying,” said Kukić, adding that so far Virovitica had always had well prepared projects.
“We have shown that we know how to use EU funding for our projects, but we need both financial and technical assistance. That’s why we reached out to the Fund to be our technical partner, so that we could continue applying to the calls. We have extraordinary nature and well-preserved environment. We have to continue working on that,” said mayor Kirin.
County mayor Igor Andrović said he believed that all investments discussed in the meeting, whether they were waste- or energy renovation-related, would be implemented with joint forces, since the budgets of town Virovitica and Virovitica-Podravina County were not capable of seeing through such large projects without assistance. “That is why we wholeheartedly welcome the assistance from the EU and the Fund,” said Andrović.
