Today, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund temporarily closed the Public Call for the purchase of vehicles using alternative fuels, after having received 356 applications for co-financing from companies and trades.Through the co-financing programme implemented by the Fund in cooperation with the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure under the 2025 National Recovery and Resilience Plan, a record EUR 21.2 million has been provided so far. The first call was published in 2025, and co-financing of 18 million euros was approved for the purchase of about 2,200 electric vehicles. As part of the allocated fund was not used up, the call was published again this year, with the aim of investing the remaining 3.2 million euros in the electrification of the vehicle fleet of Croatian companies and trades.
Up to EUR 2,500 was available to applicants for L-category vehicles (mopeds, motorcycles and quadricycles), while for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (categories M1 and N1) they could receive up to EUR 9,000, or up to 40% of the value of the vehicle. Note that the price of vehicles in any of these categories should not exceed 50,000 euros without VAT. Vehicles in categories M2, M3, N2 and N3 were co-financed with up to 40% of the value, i.e. a maximum of EUR 90,000 per vehicle. This amount was also the maximum amount of co-financing for an individual applicant, regardless of the number of vehicles for which the application was submitted. Please note that, in addition to electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, including trucks and buses, were also eligible for co-financing.
With the aim of decarbonisation of the transport system, the Government of the Republic of Croatia, in cooperation with the competent ministries and the Fund, has been promoting e-mobility for a number of years. In the last few years, through public calls the Fund has provided co-financing for more than 6,200 energy-efficient vehicles. This is a practical move towards cleaner and more sustainable transport, i.e. a green transition of transport.
By participating in the Fund's programmes, the business sector has corroborated their intention to invest in sustainable solutions and green transition, and co-financing for such investments is also available to them through programmes implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition. Specifically, as of January €45 million have been made available to taxi operators, delivery vehicle and car-sharing service providers for the purchase of vehicles. At the end of the year, the Ministry, in cooperation with HBOR, will also allocate funds through financial instruments to beneficiaries who log a lot of road time in their line of work. This will include more favourable loans or leasing schemes for micro-, small, medium and large enterprises, the public sector and state authority bodies, and state-owned enterprises, to replace their fleets with zero-emission vehicles.
Citizens can also expect another round of incentives for electric vehicles. In Q3, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund plans to publish a call worth 20 million euros, to finance the purchase of electric vehicles and home charging points for natural persons. In combination with home solar power plants, e-mobility significantly reduces costs for both households and businesses. That is why the Fund, in cooperation with the line ministry and the Government, plans to continue developing co-financing schemes, in order to make sustainable mobility, and other sustainable solutions, available to as many potential beneficiaries as possible.
