18.03.2021.

Two contracts were signed in Metković for EU grant funding to purchase municipal vehicles for separate waste collection, and for the construction of the Renewable-energy Power Plant – Metković.

The contract for the purchase of municipal vehicles for separate collection of waste was signed by the minister of economy and sustainable development, Tomislav Ćorić, PhD, the director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, Siniša Kukić, and the director of the company Čistoća Metković d.o.o., Tomislav Jakić.

The mayor of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Nikola Dobroslavić, the mayor of Metković, Dalibor Milan, deputy county mayor Žaklina Marević, and the director of the Regional Development Agency DUNEA, Melanija Milić were also present on the signing ceremony.
The total value of the project is HRK 1.9 million. “The contract we’ve signed today is a good indicator of how the town of Metković continuously invests in the waste management system at local level. For the purchase of municipal vehicles you have secured almost 1.5 million kunas from the Operating Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion. Also, you have recently signed the contract for the construction of the sorting plant, and the Fund will soon deliver the rest of the total of 8500 different containers for separate waste collection,” said Director of the Fund Siniša Kukić.

Tomislav Ćorić, PhD, the minister of economy and sustainable development, said this was another step in the direction of efficient waste management in Metković area. “Mayor Milan and his team have successfully completed the documentation and applied for co-financing for two vehicles for separate waste transport, thus upgrading their separate waste collecting infrastructure,” said Minister Ćorić.

The second contract signed today with the director of the company Respekt d.o.o. Tomislav Mandić is for the construction and fitting out of the Renewable-energy Plant Metković – a biogas plant. The separately collected bio-waste, such as garden waste, park, kitchen and similar types of waste from the production of foodstuffs will be used as substrate for the production of biogas.
Director Kukić pointed out that the contract complies with all green policies promoting sustainable waste management and utilisation of its valuable properties. “The contract signed today is valuable not only regarding the investment of more than 111 million kunas. It is also significant because the future plant will enable disposal and energy recovery of bio-waste from Dubrovnik-Neretva and Split-Dalmatia Counties. You have managed to provide 49 million kunas for the project of construction and fitting out of the biogas plant, and I would like to congratulate you on your efforts,” said Director Kukić in Metković.
Minister Ćorić expressed his satisfaction with the project of construction of the biogas plant that will contribute not only to opening new jobs but will allow this area to productively dispose of 23700 tonnes of bio-waste, and he concluded: “Completing these projects will have an impact on our overall waste management targets and should inspire respect.”
