Fund publishes analyses of buried waste in Gospić

28.07.2026.

The Fund has published analyses of the composition of buried waste at the site of the former PPK Velebit in Gospić, whereby one of the conclusions of today's meeting was fulfilled. The meeting gathered representatives of the Croatian Government, the Fund and the civic initiative "Gospić je naš dom - Gospić is our home", discussing the activities taken so far and further steps in the remediation of improperly disposed waste.

The analyses were conducted by the Dr. Andrija Štampar Teaching Institute of Public Health for the purposes of the State Inspectorate, which the Fund has already delivered to potentially interested economic entities as part of the market analysis for the disposal of buried waste.

As part of the consultations, last week the Fund sent enquiries to 11 foreign operators who manage hazardous waste landfills in the European Union and four enquiries related to the possibility of disposal in closed former salt mines used for permanent storage procedures.
