Good cooperation with Petrinja continues

11.10.2021.

The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund provided aid to the areas hit by the earthquake, with further cooperation being discussed today by Siniša Kukić, the director of the Fund, and Magdalena Komes, the mayor of Petrinja.

“These are exceptional circumstances, the ground is still shaking, and we are faced with different challenges we’re trying to resolve on a daily basis. Next year will be intensive in terms of removal of the structures that will be demolished, so we are expecting large quantities of construction and bulky waste,” said mayor Komes, thanking the Fund on their cooperation so far.

The director of the Fund, Siniša Kukić, pointed out that after the earthquake the Fund promptly mobilised and made available its resources. This included not only financial help, but field engagement of the Fund’ employees helping to organise the system of management of the debris resulting from the earthquake. To this end, with the Croatian Government’s Decision HRK 50 million was allocated for Sisak-Moslavina County, and the additional HRK 10 million for Karlovac and Zagreb Counties.

At the initiative of the Fund, municipal equipment and vehicles borrowing scheme was organised under which utility companies all over Croatia made equipment available to their counterparts in Sisak, Glina and Petrinja.  “I’ve been informed about your needs and the required municipal equipment that needs to be purchased, and we have made provisions from the available funds for this purpose. In addition, in agreement with the line ministry, in the upcoming period we will try to earmark additional resources for this purpose ,” announced director Kukić.

In the meeting, Mrs Komes pointed out the issue of increasing the capacity of the landfill due to the great amount of waste resulting from the earthquake, because its capacities were filled quicker than the envisaged dynamic. For this reason, the maximum landfill capacity has to increased within the exiting dimensions.

The representatives of Petrinja were also interested in the Public Call for energy renovation of family houses and the possibility of the houses that had been structurally remodelled to apply to this public call. The director informed them that the submission of the applications started on Thursday 14 October, and that the Fund was planning to allocate additional resources for the energy renovation of the houses that were damaged in the earthquake, so that the energy renovation could be done simultaneously with the structural remodelling.
The mayor of Petrinja thanked  the Fund for their understanding praising the Fund’s engagement thus far and help that had always been quick and efficient.
